Program: Little Mountain Out of School Care [LMOSC] - Raise a Scholar Program
Grant: $6,000
Impact: Provide books, program supplies and homework kits for an out of school daycare program serving 39 children ages 4-12 on the eastside of Vancouver.   

Family Services of Greater Vancouver
Program: Directions / Gateway
Grant: $9,575
Impact: Funding staff for 1:1 literacy support, training and educational software – resources to be used across several programs at Directions, a youth centre in downtown Vancouver that offers 24/7 support for street-entrenched youth addressing issues of homelessness, addiction, health, lifeskills, employment and education.

Vancouver School Board – Family Literacy Initiatives
Program: World at Your Table
Grant: $3,500
Impact: Fund a pilot project for this new program at one local elementary school – the program strengthens family literacy through songs, stories, the preparation and enjoyment of meals together.

Northwest Wildlife Preservation Society
Program: Nature Walk & Workshop Program
Grant: $8,150
Impact: Enable 10 inner-city secondary school classes to enjoy a one-day session in which students learn about wildlife stewardship and visit a local, natural habitat.  

Kiwassa Neighbourhood House
Program: Reel Youth
Grant: $3,500
Impact: Provide 7-8 digital claymation workshops that empower at-risk youth to explore societal issues, creative collaboration and communication.

Vancouver Public Library Foundation
Program: Get Carded
Grant: $9,275
Impact: Enable 4 Grade 9 classes (30 sessions) in underserved secondary schools to benefit from Get Carded – a program that takes the public library and its resources directly to teens in a relevant way to address their increasingly complex Internet research needs.

After-School All Stars
Program: Math and Science Focus, TIVITZ
After-School All Stars provides after-school programming to children from 14 school sites across San Jose.  Our funds will be used to purchase TIVITZ, a tool to develop math and critical reasoning skills.

Escuela Popular
Program: Accelerated Schools: Powerful Learning, Unlimited Success
Impact: Escuela Popular is a charter school whose mission is to graduate bilingual and bi-literate students.  Our funds will be used to enable their conversion to an ASPLUS affiliate, a program to transform school communities to an enriched environment utilizing teaching strategies generally reserved for gifted children.

Chatterbox Plus (East Berkshire)
Program: Speech Therapy Program
Grant: 2,500 GBP
Chatterbox Plus’ primary objective is to provide speech and language therapy for school age children with Down’s syndrome. The program works to improve the communication ability of children with Down’s syndrome. Our grant provides 1 year of a speech therapist’s services for 15 children.

Assisting Berkshire Children to Read (East Berkshire)
Program: ABC to Read
Grant: 4,000 GBP
ABC to Read provides trained community volunteers to help school children with their reading and literacy skills.  ABC provides fully supported volunteers who spend up to 3 hours each week giving one to one reading help to children between the ages of 6 and 11 in 46 schools. With our funding, 12 volunteers will be trained specifically in the East Berkshire area.

Volunteer Reading Help (London North West)
Program: Volunteer Reading Help
Grant: 4,000 GBP
Using trained volunteers, Volunteer Reading Help provides one to one, regular and sustained literacy training for children between the ages of 6 and 11.  The funds from the Business Objects foundation will facilitate program expansion into Brent and Barnet districts.  This includes recruiting, background vetting, training, equipping with supplies and ongoing assessment of four volunteers. 

Charville After School Group (Hayes)
Program: After School Assistance with English
Grant: 3,498 GBP
This program assists children from the Somali refugee community with their English skills.  Twenty-five Somali children participate in an after-school homework club and benefit from a qualified English teacher for an academic year. Books related to the programme will also be bought.



France

Enfants du Mékong (Asnières, France)
Program: Intégration pour l’emploi
Grant: €5000
Impact: Support the costs for a psychologist, integral to a team supporting 18 vulnerable young Asian adults to integrate into the workforce. The funds will also be used to acquire educational supplies.

Ateliers sans Frontières (Bonneuil sur Marne, France)
Program: Saha
Grant: €5000
Impact: Twelve young adults from a deprived area of the Paris suburbs, will be enrolled in education programs to prepare them for a programme management position in Algeria. They will build an educative structure and a sports centre in El Kseur (Algeria) to be used by underprivileged children in the Algerian city.

AFEV (Paris, France)
Program: Accompagnement vers la lecture
Grant: €5000
Impact: Allow 5-year-old immigrant children to discover the pleasure of reading and maximize their chance to be good readers in primary school. Our grant will support the recruitment costs for a coordinator to match and support volunteers and families through an in-home tutoring program.  This is a pilot project.

Genespoir (Paris, France)
Program: Genespoir
Grant: €5000
Impact: Allow albino children living in families with financial difficulties to access education. Our grant will be dedicated to purchase educational aids, such as monoculars and magnifying glasses, to help the children to read both at school and at home. Also, our funds will be used to buy sun cream to protect their skin while on educational outings.
